A popular café in Burton Bradstock has created its very own variety of gin.

Hive Beach Café has produced three dozen bottles of Salty Fingers Gin, which takes its name from the variety of seaweed used as an infusion. The algae is similar in appearance to a small white grape, and has a slightly salty flavour, with pieces of the seaweed suspended in the spirit and visible through the glass bottle.

The gin has also been infused with a selection of botanicals and Sicilian lemon.

Steve Attrill, company director at Hive Beach Café, said: "We've really focused on making our gin a homemade, unique, bespoke, and entirely local product. All the seaweed is sourced from the shores of the south west and the gin itself is distilled in a nearby distillery. Each bottle will also have a distinct batch number and individual label."

The label and promotional material have also all been designed in-house.

Salty Fingers Gin is currently being sold in the Hive Beach shop for £30. The spirit, which is 38% alcohol by volume, tastes best combined with a classic Indian tonic and a good squeeze of lemon, but also works well with orange and other citrus-flavoured mixers.
