Hungry and thirsty after a trek around the Nothe my visiting family and I stopped off at The Stable in Weymouth for a spot of lunch.

Promising ‘Dorset’s finest pizza, pies and cider’, the menu provided exactly what it said on the tin.

While perusing the menu we opted to try a selection of ciders. For £7.50 you get a board with 5 half-pint servings of various cider and perry, the Thatchers Cheddar Valley cider proving popular with the group.

My guests were impressed with the choice of toppings on offer and found it difficult to choose from the great selection.

I plumped for The Joe Gundry Pizza, which had smoked mackerel, smoked salmon, mozzarella, spinach and a drizzle of lemon.

The strong mackerel married together nicely with the salmon and cheese.

Mum, not the biggest pizza fan, opted for the Lamb Roast, which as you can probably guess had a minted roast lamb topping. With goats cheese, sweet potato and onions, I thought it might taste a little odd, however I was assured it was ‘delicious’.

This meant I had to try a slice for myself and I whole-heartedly concurred.

Dad was impressed with his ‘Chesil Chicken’ which came with red peppers, local field mushrooms , tomato and mozzarella.

The fact he wouldn’t share any probably speaks volumes for its taste.

We had to wait a little longer for my brother’s pizza to arrive and we had nearly finished ours by the time his arrived.

He opted for the Longhorn Jim, off the specials menu, this had minced beef, chorizo and onion on it. It was well worth the wait. We were too full for dessert but the Hazelnut chocolate & mascarpone pizza being served to others looked great.

The only downers were that on a busy Saturday only one person was serving behind the bar so it took a while to get served, also the drinks were a little on the pricey side.
