“SIX pounds for a bacon sandwich?”

“It’s not on the menu.”

The two members of staff were discussing how much to charge someone else for a bacon sandwich as I waited to order our lunch at the bar of The Weld Arms in East Lulworth.

If they did charge £6 and served up a very tasty, yet not very big sandwich, then that will have been similar to the meals we had.

My salmon and dill fishcakes were large and fluffy with plenty of fish and the saffron sauce and samphire was beautifully presented, tasting great.

And my wife’s fillet of warm mackerel with a new potato, beetroot and cress salad went down well too.

But at £10.95 a piece it felt like maybe we should not have needed to order a side of chips to share.

But with the bill for two adults and a child coming in at £37.90 with drinks it was not bad value in total and the food is pretty good.

The children’s sausage and mash was not all eaten by my daughter and the sausage did taste deep fried though, which was disappointing.

We had pulled into the car park on a sunny day and the garden and patio had plenty of room for us to choose a table despite a scattering of customers.

There was also a climbing frame and slide that put an instant grin on our four-year-old’s face.

The Daily Echo reviewed the pub on Mother’s Day last year when it had a specific menu for that day so it was good to return and try their normal selection.

It was a difficult choice as the menu had some eye catching dishes including a ham hock with cider sauce and chive mash.

The vegetarian choices looked good too with a goats cheese bruschetta starter and a gnocchi with blue cheese and spinach main.
