EATERIES on Portland are being invited to take part in a new festival for the island.

Portland Visitor Information Centre is launching a Food Week for Portland with a meeting on Thursday March 23 at 10am at the Heights Hotel, Portland. It is planned that the week will be held in November in a bid to encourage footfall to the island out of season.

Food-serving businesses on Portland are invited to come along to the meeting and find out how they can take part.

Mike Deadman, of Portland’s Visitor Information Centre, said: "It’s a real treat for foodies. From November 4 to 11 inclusive, Portland food establishments will have an opportunity to participate in this very special event.”

Mike continued; “Whether you serve three course meals at a table or provide a take-away service, this event applies to you.

"Discover more as we invite you to showcase your signature dish or promote an offer to encourage footfall in the winter months, which are often quieter for some businesses.”

Mike said there is a large variety of places on Portland serving great cuisine.

He said: "There’s never been a better time to explore the food on offer. Whether it’s a seafood platter or sausage and chips, this event will be unique in that each participating establishment will be able to promote a specific dish."

*Food-serving businesses that would like to find out how they can take part should attend the Portland Tourism update meeting on Thursday March 23 March at the Heights Hotel, Portland, at 10am.
