WITH apologies to Michael Caine in Zulu but: “GIGS! Faaaaahsands of them! Look at ‘em all. With spears an’ shizzle. Every bleeding where!”

Anyone would think it was Easter weekend.

What? Oh, right… Just room today for some of the highlights then, and kicking off tomorrow, Saturday, March 26, with The Boat That Rocked relaunch party at Portland Marina.

They’ve got a full day of live music starting at 11 with Hannah Robinson, followed by Pete Robson, Headland, Tom Clements and the Clementynes, Indigo Blue, Bare Jams.

And back on the mainland, The Boot in Weymouth kicks off its two-day jamboree on Saturday from 3pm with Dom Johnson, Martin Freed, Milk and Two, The Shakespearos, Under The Carousel.

And the line-up for Sunday, March 27, again from 3pm, is John Stone, Pete Christie, Blazin’ Strings, Lauren Bannon and The Chase.

Staying in High West Street, The awesome Surfing Birds are launching their new album at the hip and happening Belvedere on Saturday, March 26.

As singer Paul Sharod tells me: “We’re releasing our first full length 10-track album, with lots of influences ranging from 60’s surf bands, R ‘n’ B, psyche, and psychedelia. It’s on the Fuelled By Cider label based in Bristol. It’ll be available from independent record shops, iTunes, and Spotify.

“Also, we’re cresting on a psychotic, psychedelic wave, with wide-eyed, contorted shapes, enraptured, entrapped by the sonic barrage of razor- sharp chords and primitive, heavy sound.”

Cheers, Paul. Want another cider in there?

Moving on to the Sunday, March 27, and it’s the first Tea on the Quay of the year at the Rendezvous by the Town Bridge in Weymouth with a sparkling line-up, starting at midday, of Powelly, Peacock Suit, Southern Sinners, The Chase, Triple Threat, Lauren and Billy, Cuba Libre and The Leggomen.

Up on the seafront, it’s the traditional Hippy Fest at the Lazy Lizard with Chloe and Tom, Seabass, Mad Hatters, Leggomen, Blazing Strings, Powelly entertaining the masses from 3pm.

And local supergroup The Kings of Oblivion will be celebrating the music of David Bowie at the New Vic from 8pm.

It’s just £5 on the door with proceeds going to Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

Have a fabulous Easter break.

Till next time…
