IT WAS while I was away last week working as a body double for the more intimate scenes on the current series of Love Island that the lovely girls there came up with a nickname for me.

Now, being the perfect gent that I am, I wouldn’t want to divulge the sobriquet that Montana, Tyla, Chyna and Hyena gave me but by amazing coincidence, it’s the name of the band who are playing at Finns in Weymouth tomorrow night, Saturday, July 8.

The Sweetchunks Band, as you can see from the picture today, are particularly hairy. They’re also rather sweary and not a little lairy, as a quick view of some of their videos will affirm.

The Southampton-based comedy-folk trio are also flipping hilarious, are top, top players to boot and are firm favourites on the festival circuit with their bawdy drinking songs and risqué version of well-known chooones: Prince’s Kiss and Top Gun’s Danger Zone, for example.

They’ve supported such luminaries as Chas and Dave, The Wurzels and Professor Elemental at festivals including Bearded Theory, Isle of Wight and Beautiful Days and are well worth checking out of you like a belly full of beer and laughs.

And coming up at Finns next Friday, July 14, is another night of mosh-tastic metal, with an impressive line-up headed by local metalcore monsters As Flames Rise. They’ll be supported by York’s InVisions, Leicester hardcore five-piece Icons and Deference, who hail from Southampton.

It’s just £3 on the door from 7pm for the privilege of having your eardrums exploded and major internal organs re-arranged.

Moving on, and it’s the tenth Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival this weekend which is always a fabulous event and really shows off Weymouth as a fantastic town.

And what better way to wash down your winkles than with a pint or three of cider, which is rather handy as The Boot is staging its cider festival tomorrow and Sunday, July 8 and 9.

Along with barrels of falling down apple juice, there’s a great selection of live music with Phil Dewhurst, Identikit, Drive By Jammin’, JD Acoustic, Powelly, Mad Hatters playing tomorrow from 2pm.

And Sunday’s line-up includes Weymouth Ukuleleans, Dom Johnson, Freak Circus, Milk and Two, Xander and The Keys and Hustle, again all kicking-off from 2pm. Now, I’m no expert, but this could get messy, so wear your wellies and bring a spare thong.

And finally, I’ll be hosting the Hijacked show for Air FM 107.2 next Wednesday, July 12, from 8-10pm, delighting your lugholes with a choice section of vintage disco and funk, shedloads of Northern Soul heartbreakers, earthquakers and floor-shakers, plus some reggae and ska to garnish.

Till next time…
