AS I said at last Sunday’s church fete after a couple of light sherries: Brace yourself, vicar, there’s so much of it, I’m never going to fit it all in.

Yes, it’s one of those jam-packed weekends when there’s just so much going on just about everywhere.

Fr’instance, it’s the Wykefest beer and cider jamboree this weekend at the Wyke Smugglers in Weymouth and they’ve got a top line up of live music starting tonight, Friday, July 21 with the moon-stomping monarchs of ska and reggae The Mad Hatters.

Tequila Mockingbird will be marking their first anniversary tomorrow night, Saturday, July 22, and on Sunday, July 23, it’s the first proper pub gig for those outrageously young and talented whippersnappers The Undecided.

Aged just 12 or 13, (Blimey, I’m wearing pants that are older than that...) the fab foursome of singer Kyle Griffin, guitarist Toby Burley, bassist George Cartwright and Zak Hurrell on drums just about stole the show at last month’s Gimme Shelter fundraiser at the Smugglers to earn themselves Sunday’s gig, which kicks off at 3pm.

They also impressed at the recent Spirit of Chickerell bash with their set of classic rock and indie covers, have done a few showcases at Budmouth College and are booked for the All Saints School summer fete.

Good luck to the next generation of Weymouth musos.

Wykefest will be raising money for the MV Freedom and there’s another fundraising gig tonight, Friday, July 21, at the Centenary Club in Weymouth The ever-popular Silhouettes will be donning their smart lounge suits, black horn-rimmed specs and red Fender Strats to celebrate the music of Cliff Richard and the Shadows.

They’ve even been working on their Shadows dances for the evening which will boost the coffers of the Jeff Astle Foundation. There’s also an auction of football memorabilia and Dawn Astle, the daughter of the former England, West Brom and Terras’ ace, will be the special guest.

It’s just £5 on the door tonight from 8pm and I’m told there’s a decent buffet, which will be ideal if you’re ‘Hank Marvin’.

And the hard-working team at Revolutions café and vinyl emporium on Weymouth’s Trinity Road celebrate their first anniversary in business tomorrow, Saturday, July 22, with an all-dayer jam session at the Belvedere, followed by a night of right bangin’ choones with James Laming, Precinct of Sound and DJ Willis on the mighty wheels of steel.

There’ll be a collection for The Samaritans throughout the event. So dig deep, okay?

With so much going on, it’s just a cheeky mention for the latest Tea on the Quay all-dayer at the Rendezvous in Weymouth on Sunday, July 23. Kicking off at midday, there’s another crowd-pleasing line-up with Toby De Kretser, Lauren Bannon, Identikit, Milk & Two, Triple Threat, Side Door Project, The Mighty Fine and Peacock Suit on the bill, with Hustle taking the party indoors from 1030ish.

Moving on, and it’s congrats and best of luck to chantuese Amy Mayes who will be making her debut at the world-renowned Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London’s Soho this Sunday, July 23. “I’ve never been before but I’m just in awe of who’s graced the staged there. Very big boots to fill,” Amy tells me. No worries, I’m sure she’ll smash it.

And finally, it’s high fives all round and a series of hearty woops to top tub thumper Grant Holford who has been a bit poorly of late but is on the mend.

Weymouth’s tallest drummer will be in the engine room with Bad Intention at Finns in Weymouth tomorrow night, Saturday, July 22.

Let’s hope the big fella has given his problems the sort of severe hammering his kit regularly receives, and he’s back for good.

Till next time…
