NEXT week is traditionally the busiest of the summer season with thousands of visitors making the annual pilgrimage to Weymouth Carnival.

The event has evolved over the years, mainly down to changes in popular taste, but it’s still a huge attraction with the grand procession and the thrilling Red Arrows just two of the many highlights.

Incidentally, the one question everyone asks is: What time are the Red Arrows on? Well, they’re due at 5.30pm on Wednesday, August 16, in the sky which can be found directly above you if you’re outdoors and you look up. If it’s raining, they’ll be doing their spectacular show indoors at a venue to be announced on the day, okay?

Aside from the Arrows, and the procession and the carnival queen and the stalls and the fairground rides, what else is there at Weymouth Carnival.?

Well, there’s a tip-top line-up of live music on both Tuesday, August 15 and Wednesday, August 16 with some of the most popular bands entertaining the happy throng on the beach stage.

Starting at 11.30am on the Tuesday with the Second Edition Majorettes, the menu also includes, Fitzy, Neil Coad, Edd Bleach, Side Door Project, The Secrets, Identikit, Drive By Jammin’ , Bad Intention, Lo Numbers and The Stereoironics last on at 9pm.

There’s more top choooange on Wednesday, August 16, with JD Acoustic opening up at noon, followed by Jukebox Junkies, Stacey Lou and Danny Adams, Hustle, Moonstone, Tequila Mockingbird, Regulation 9, Peacock Suit, Danny and the Champions of the world before the mighty Dolmen bring the curtain down from 8.30 with a their full show, followed by a spectacular fireworks display and even more spectacular display of queuing at every chip shop in town.

Moving on, and some of the bands taking part in the Weymouth Carnival celebrations will also be supporting the Ducks and Drakes Cancer Trust fundraiser tomorrow, Saturday, August 12 at Hintock Farm, Charminster, near Dorchester.

The trust was founded to help save lives and promote well-being by raising awareness of cancer and specifically Bowel Cancer in young people, aged 18 to 30 in Dorset and UK and to support Bowel Cancer patients and their families through the provision of specialist medical equipment and financial aid.

Tomorrow’s bash has a terrific line-up including Tequila Mocking bird, Lo Numbers and Stereoironics, who all be all doing a turn at Weymouth Carnival, as well as Stress, Nina Garcia, Weird and Gilly, Vanilla Radio and Loose Connections plus a whole shedload more.

There are still some tickets left for admission on the gate tomorrow so check ducksdrakescancertrust.org.uk for details, prices etc And finally, blokes of a certain age and stature will be sticking their tongues out and getting their beer bellies out in anticipation of a visit from Buster Bloodvessel and the brilliant Bad Manners who are at the Weymouth Pavilion next Friday, August 18.

They’ll be no doubt tearing another hole in the huge hits from the late 70s and early 80s, including Special Brew, Lorraine and, inevitably, Lip Up Fatty.

Support comes for peerless ska and reggae purveyors The Mad Hatters and tickets at £21.50 are available from the box office on 01305 783225.

Till next time…
