WHO says musicians couldn’t organise a knees up in a brewery? Not The Dumb Poets, that’s for sure.

The Bournemouth-based quartet are launching their new album All The Ghosts tonight, Friday September 28, with an exclusive show at the Poole Hill Brewery in Bournemouth, which also includes the first public viewing of the film for Sugarmouth, the excellent single from the album, at the venue’s vintage mini-cinema.

The film was shot at The Pirates Graveyard at Church Ope on Portland back in August which is rather apposite as, if you can’t get along tonight, the band are at The Boat That Rocks on Portland Marina tomorrow, Saturday, September 29.

If you love your guitars chiming with a bit of jingle and some added jangle, super soaraway choruses and an air of Sixties beat hip-dom, The Dumb Poets are very much the band for you.

The foursome of Lance Riley on guitar and vocals, Harry Skinner on guitar, Jim Greenwood on bass and tub-thumping legend Joe Musker on drums are well schooled in the British beat boom, with nods to The Kinks and the Yardbirds, and a great sense of melodic pop hooks as well as the obligatory pea coats, floppy hair and skinny jeans.

Well worth making the effort to catch ‘em, I’d say.

Moving on into R-ocktober, if you will, and another band well worth smashing into your musical satnav are The Scribes, a hip-hop beatbox trio who have been tearing it up all year at scores of festivals across the country.

The trio of lyricists Ill Literate (that’s probably not his real name…) and Johnny Steele (that probably is…) and human beatbox Lacey (who knows…) have played with such hip-hop luminaries as Wu Tang Clan, Example, Plan B and Prof Green (presumably in the billiard room with the candlestick…) so it’s quite a coup to welcome them down to sunny Weymouth with a gig at The Belvedere next Saturday, October 6.

And looking ahead to next weekend it could well be worth your while heading west to the rather lovely Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis for the visit of Tom Robinson next Friday, October 5.

He’ll be marking the 40th anniversary of his big smasheroonie 2-4-6-8 Motorway by playing the entire Power in the Darkness album with his top-notch band of Faithless drummer Andy Treacey, Richard Ashcroft’s guitarist Adam Phillips and keys whiz Jim Simmons, with Tom on bass, obvs...

Tickets are £20 from 01297 442138.

And finally, I’ll be hosting another Hijacked programme for Air FM 107.2 next Wednesday, October 3, from 8-10pm and, in keeping with my new status as a gentleman of leisure, I’ll be broadcasting from the den sporting my velvet smoking jacket, wincyette pyjamas and satin slippers. (Pictures will be available…) I’ll be featuring an easy listening playlist with lots of lounge-core and enough cheese to sink a fondue party with tracks from The Carpenters, Neil Sedaka, Matt Monro, Scott Walker and the like, so get comfy and tune in, okay?

n As from today, there’s a new email address for your live music shizzle and that’s echogigguide@outlook.com so can you all use that in future please. Thanks!

Till next time…
