IF YOU want something done properly, do it yourself.

That’s certainly what rising metalcore band End of Daze have been doing since they formed a few years back and it’s working out pretty damn well for them.

The Weymouth-based band, now unleashed to the public as a frighteningly talented six-piece, released their first album back in September 2015 and have gigged all over the place, including dates at festivals across Europe and metal nights across the UK.

They’ve got a series of prestige showcase gigs lined up for this year to promote their second album, as yet untitled, which is due for release very soon.

And all this without major record company support, just down to the hard work of the band and their tight network of fans and supporters.

As Tom Staple, one of the bands two vocalists, tells me: “There’s been a lot of interest from companies but we’ve been doing so well ourselves, they’d have to do it a lot better for us to consider them.

“We’ve been working on the new album at a studio in Gosport and at producer Pash Stratton’s studio in Bournemouth. He did our first album too.”

Tom shares vocal duties with Harry Shooter with Harry taking the feral shouting and guttural screaming on the choruses and hooks and Tom handling the more melodic verses.

The twin guitar assault of Winter Prior and Jack Wood lead the skull-crushing sonic meltdown with jaw-dropping solos while the bass of James Jefferis and drums of Jason Jones hold down a very meaty low end.

(Incidentally, did I tell you about the time I suffered from a meaty low end? Not nice, but a combination of Sudocrem and Swarfega cleared it up a treat. Thanks for asking.) Moving swiftly on and there’s a chance to catch End of Daze in Weymouth next Friday, January 25 when they play at Finns.

“It’s always good to play a hometown gig,” Tom tells me “and it’s where we started out.”

It looks like a must-go gig for those of you who love their innards rearranged and bowels voided by low frequency noise with four other great metal bands on the bill.

There’s hardcore rockers The Disconnect from Southampton, Dorchester’s very own riff merchants Hollow Horizons, Brighton-based Barriers and, headlining on this occasion, Jack The Envious, alt/punks from that London.

Tickets for a splendid night of all-original metal music are £5 in advance or £6 on the door from 7pm.

Get there early because you know it’s going to be mosh city central right from the off.
