MISSED out on tickets for Glastonbury this year?

Frightened you’re going to miss out on your festival fix, the unbridled joy of experiencing bands in the open air while up to your neck in other  punters’ droppings while wondering where you left your tent?

(Actually, I’ve just taken a poll and apparently eight of ten people hate it when their tent falls down…)

There’s no need for any of that FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out, keep up at the back, please…) nonsense, as there are plenty of smaller, local festivals to enjoy over the next few weeks.

Last Saturday’s Chesil Rocks bash at Langton Herring  was a real humdinger, helped no doubt  by some glorious weather, so let’s hope for more of the same for the family-friendly  Jurassic Fields Festival in Bridport coming up on  Saturday and Sunday July 12 and 13.

It’s a not-for-profit event and helps raise money to support the tremendous musical talent we have in south and west Dorset with a view to building a professional recording studio and rehearsal facilities.

The festival is now in its sixth year and they’ve got a wide range of acts to bring in the punters from all over the country and further afield to Askers Meadow.

Friday night’s headliners Coasts are reforming exclusively for the festival and also performing on the opening night are Dr Meaker and Sledgehead.

Saturday night’s main band are the mighty Dreadzone with support from Coco and the Butterfeilds and Sam Green.

There are a host of other bands and acts playing over the tow days including Arcade Hearts, Dutch Criminal Record, Shelby’s Elbows, Sinful Maggie and many, many more.

For all the shizzle, check the jurassicfields.com website, okay?

If you can’t wait a couple of weeks to get your wellies on, how about the South Cider Festival at Bredy Farm, near Burton Bradstock.

Again it’s out in the wild, wild west, but still a great four-day beano from Friday July 5 to Monday, July 8

As you might expect there’s a great line-up with a wide range of musical genres, and an even greater array of ciders for you to enjoy.

Friday’s  bands include Duncan Disorderly and the Scalliwags, Little Red Kings, The Dead Freights and quite a few more.

Saturday’s bill includes Delta Bombers, Honey Feet, Creeping Jean (I think I used to go out with her…) and the Guns of Navarone while Sunday offers up Little Thief, Captain Accident and The Disasters, The Imprints and Mike Dennis.

Again, for all the shizzle, check out bredyfarm.bigcartel.com

And finally, next weekend is the Chickerell Steam fair which, as well as featuring highly-polished, immaculately restored and noisy steam engines also features highly-polished, immaculately restored and noisy bands.

Elvis 55 gets the party going on Friday, July 5 while Saturday’s line-up -boasts The Undecided, Blazin’ Strings, the fabulous Glass Spiders, Under the Carousel and Jolly Boys Outing.

Sunday winds down with Milk and Two, Chill and The Stone Band.
