No one would have believed... and so began Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of the War of the Worlds – The Next Generation with a packed, edge of the seat audience at the BIC.
The applause had already started before sprightly composer 69-year old Wayne bounced on, surrounded by his talented orchestra and band as the epic production unfolded on a giant screen with special effects galore and star appearances on stage.
While special effects such as Liam Neeson’s hologram and the looming Martian ship impressed, ex-Wet Wet Wet frontman Marti Pellow as The Sung Thoughts of the Journalist, and Kaiser Chiefs’ singer Ricky Wilson as The Artilleryman thrilled the audience.
But the show was clearly stolen with a haunted performance by Jason Donovan as Pastor Nathanial.
A truly out of this world production.
