DICK TRACY
Portesham Village Hall,
GET ready for an evening of sheer silliness and laughter when Le Navet Bete – roughly translated as a bunch of idiots - are in town as the Devon-based company live up to expectations with their wild and whacky take on the American cartoon detective who never loses a case.
Four energetic men take on dozens of roles as our intrepid hero sorts out a gang of villains intent on demolishing an entire city centre in order to construct a money-making casino.
Original songs and big band background music keep up a lively pace as gang leader Big Boy Caprice runs circles around Tracy and lands the detective in jail as part of his cunning plan.
The cast of four clowns change costumes, roles and don masks at lightning speed in a fast-moving comic farce that includes exploding cocktails, a one wheeled motorbike, a box of kittens and a model girlfriend who literally falls to pieces, all of which keeps the audience rolling in the aisles as they throw slices of bread at the actors – well they would wouldn’t they?
An ingeniously constructed set that is constantly on the move adds to the enjoyment of an innovative and hugely enjoyable production that never misses a beat. There is a further performance under the auspices of Artsreach at Cranborne Village Hall on Saturday.
Be there, you’ll love every minute of it.
