THE world of ballroom dancing met the magic of the musicals when Strictly favourites Anton du Beke and Erin Boag stopped off at Bournemouth's Pavilion Theatre as part of their 2019 tour.

Dance Those Magical Musicals celebrated the wonder of song and dance through the ages, with tributes to some of our favourite shows.

From the drama of Phantom of the Opera and the poignancy of Les Miserables, to the rock 'n' roll fun of Hairspray and the whimsy of Mary Poppins - there was something from every genre and every style of musical theatre.

The stars of the show were accompanied by a group of fantastically slick West End dancers, with music by the brilliant London Concert Orchestra, and vocals from the wonderful Lance Ellington.

Fans of all ages packed into the auditorium - in fact the Bournemouth date has now become so popular that a second, matinee performance now takes place as part of the tour.

The beauty of this show is that, as well as the dancing, there is plenty of opportunity for the couple to take time to chat to the audience, with a question and answer session taking up a good chunk of act two.

Erin is simply delightful, while natural comedian Anton revels in taking centre stage, regaling fans with tales of his various Strictly partners. He even made one young fan's day by inviting her up on stage to join him for a jive.

As always, thoroughly entertaining. EMMA JOSEPH
