Meryl Streep is reportedly in talks to appear in the forthcoming Mary Poppins sequel.
The Hollywood actress, 67, would portray the fictional nanny’s cousin Topsy if she lands the role in Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns, said Variety.
The follow-up to the 1964 musical will see Emily Blunt portray Mary, taking over from original actress Julie Andrews, Walt Disney Studios confirmed in May.
Meryl and Emily, 33, have previously worked together on two films, The Devil Wears Prada and Into The Woods, so this would be their third time on screen together.
Mary Poppins Returns will reunite Emily (and maybe Meryl) with Into The Woods director Rob Marshall, while the script will be penned by Finding Neverland writer David Magee.
The film will see the Banks children, Jane and Michael, all grown up as it’s set 20 years after the original movie, taking place in 1930s London.
Meryl would be taking on the role of maid Topsy Turvy, a character in P.L. Travers’ original books but who did not appear in the original film. The fun second name comes from her marriage to Arthur Turvy.
The Oscar winner would also have to put her vocal talents to the test once again, following on from her critically-acclaimed turn in 2014’s Into The Woods.
Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is best known for his role in Broadway hit Hamilton, has also been cast in the film as Jack the lamplighter.
Mary Poppins Returns is set to hit cinemas in December 2018.
