DORCHESTER watercolourist Sue Peake is joining forces with her brother for her new show.

Sue will be exhibiting 30 new paintings, while her older brother Antony Mallaby will be showing a selection of his fine wooden furniture.

The brother-and-sister show runs at the Guggleton Gallery in Stalbridge, from Saturday, July 5, until Sunday, July 13, and is open from 11am to 5pm.

Sue started painting seriously when she and her husband retired to Dorchester.

She has had three solo shows, two at East Lambrook Manor in Somerset, and this will be her second show at Guggleton.

The exhibition will include 30 new watercolours covering a range of subjects – Florence, travels further afield in India, Greece and Indonesia, horse-racing and polo, African animals, as well as scenes from London and Dorset and the coast. Venice has always been a favourite subject and the show will include a number of paintings of the city. Sue exhibits her pictures all over the country and has undertaken a number of private commissions.

Antony, of Staple Fitzpaine, Taunton, enjoys marquetry and working with mahogany and walnut particularly, and his exhibits will include small tables, bookends, lazy susans, photo frames and fire screens.

Antony said: “Sue and I are descended from five generations of amateur artists and craftsmen who have variously created furniture, carvings, paintings and clocks. I learned some of my skills in my grandfather’s workshop as a boy.”
