THE Leighton Art Gallery in Trinity Street, Weymouth, will be hosting an exhibition of works entitled Wessex & Beyond, starting tomorrow.

The exhibition will consist of stunning pastels by Anne M D Jones, BA depicting the wonderful Dorset coast and countryside with its cliffs, cottages, castles and much more, together with watercolours and acrylics by Lynda Appleby on a variety of subjects including the Australian landscape.

Both artists have been exhibiting their work for many years with great success and paintings are now in private collections all over the world.

Anne's understanding of landscape enables her to paint realistic pictures that have a wide appeal and the use of pastel as the medium gives her the opportunity to interpret what she sees in a way that adds colour and atmosphere.

Lynda is increasingly working on a larger range of subject matter, all of which have elements of strong colour and form.

Her most recent work featuring parrots and macaws and natural forms from the animal and geological world has been enormously popular.

The display will run at the Leighton Gallery until Bank Holiday Monday, May 28. It will be open daily from 10am-5.30pm and both artists will be in attendance at the gallery on Sunday, May 20 from 2pm demonstrating their techniques in an informal 'paint-off' called Watercolour vs Pastel.
