A SPECTACULAR adaptation of J M Barrie's famous story of the boy who never grew up visits Poole next week.

The Wild Rose Russian Ice Stars perform Peter Pan On Ice in the venue and unique touches, such as penny farthings being ridden across the ice as the curtain opens on the skyline of a London park, pave the way for a fast-moving production packed with jumps and spins performed by the amazing Russian performers.

Caverliere Giuseppe Arena, director of the opening ceremony of Turin's 2006 Winter Olympic Games, choreographed the show.

He explains: "I use an artist's individuality to help make the character they are playing their own - whether a mermaid, Tiger Lily, or Peter Pan and Hook in a fight and skate sequence.

"Our artists talk with their bodies and every element of the show needs to make sense - from a double axel to a butterfly spin. Everyone in the audience must be spellbound by the result."

Peter Pan On Ice features a specially-commissioned original musical score from Italian composer Maestro Silvio Amato, responsible for Hollywood film compositions including Screw Loose, Oscar Wilde and Novello.

Wild Rose producer Vee Deplidge pioneered the concept of theatre on ice by producing full-length productions designed to fit theatre stages throughout the world allowing audiences to view moves close up, different from the traditional view gained during ice arena productions.

She says: "What makes Peter Pan so special is that the ideas behind it are magnificent.

"It has always been a big favourite of mine - I read it often as a child and always loved being able to escape to Wonderland whenever I opened the pages. It's truly satisfying to be able to transport others into this fantasy world with our latest production."

Peter Pan On Ice is at Lighthouse in Poole from Wednesday to Sunday, June 20 to 24. Performances are at 7.30pm Wednesday to Saturday, there are 2.30 Wednesday and Saturday matinees and the Sunday show is at 1.30pm. For ticket prices and to book, call 08700 668701.
