AY CARAMBA! The flavour of Brazil is coming to Nether Cerne this month.

On Friday, June 29 there will be a superb Brazilian-style fundraising fiesta in the picturesque village, which lies between Godmanstone and Cerne Abbas. Starting at 7.30pm with a drinks reception, the evening will consist of a sit-down meal complete with a fire show, live band and other entertainment.

The fiesta - dress black tie, carnival or jungle dress - starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £30. Funds raised will go towards two worthwhile causes: Iracambi Medicina da Mata - a sustainable medicinal herb plant project located in Brazil, which aids the local people, forest, farmers and forest economy - and the restoration of the Godmanstone church bells.

The bells, together with their original medieval oak frame, have been designated as of exceptional antiquarian interest and possibly the most important early installation to remain in Dorset, dating back to the 15th century.

For tickets to the fiesta contact Diana Bladon, The Old Manse, 19 Long Street, Cerne Abbas with cheques payable to Nether Cerne Fiesta and a stamped, self-addressed envelope.

On the following day, Saturday, June 30, Nether Cerne will host a family siesta day.

Starting at 2pm, this promises to be an afternoon of fun for all the family with drumming and dance workshops, craft workshops, a massage and healing yurt, a pilates workshop, raffle, barbeque and cream teas.
