THIS month sees the publication of Family Friendly Dorset's summer brochure filled with events for the summer holiday season.

With activities in art, dance, theatre, museums and libraries, this summer will be full of ideas.

From Bridport Arts Centre's Sculpture on the Beach, Walford Mill's open-air production of Twelfth Night, Dorset Libraries' Big Wild Read to Artsreach's extensive programme of events in village halls across the county, there'll be lots to see and do between July and September.

Family Friendly Dorset is a vital tool whereby parents, grandparents, tourists, carers or anyone looking to entertain the family this summer can find out about cultural events and activities taking place across the county.

Parents can pick up the summer brochure from any of the participating venues or libraries, sign up to the free mailing list, or keep up to date with events via www.familyfriendlydorset.org.uk Family Friendly spokesman Kate Teasdale said: "The scheme involves 15 of the key cultural organisations across the county and is designed to encourage family participation in the arts. Partner organisations include the Lighthouse, Bridport Arts Centre, The Study Gallery of Modern Art and Dorset County Museum."

She added: "All 15 are committed to being family friendly, providing entertaining and educational experiences for both local families and those visiting the area.

"These venues also aim to get families creative within a welcoming atmosphere, understanding that families come in all shapes and sizes."

Launched by the Dorset Arts Promoters Forum in September 2005 and supported by Arts Council England South West, the scheme's eight-month pilot phase saw a 14.8 per cent increase in attendance to events with a family focus among the partner venues. In doing so, the scheme has already helped families have fun and learn together.
