FOLLOWING the success of last year, South West Art Work is running a second contemporary art exhibition on Portland this month.

Featuring more than 10 different artists, the historical space of St Peter's Church will be transformed once more into an explosion of art in various mediums including textile work, large-scale paintings, video installations, sculptures and photography.

To start the exhibition with a bang, Grove Infant School will be holding their Grove Big Summer Festival on Sunday, July 8 in the grounds of the church.

This is guaranteed to be a fun-filled day featuring a number of local bands such as Si Jubb' Carruthers, Gothic Chicken and Paisley to name but a few.

Among the other attractions will be an inflatable football pitch, circus skills, drama and music performances from the school children, face painting, various stalls including the delectable delights of a hog roast and a beer tent.

With all this excitement outside viewers can cool off inside the church and view the wonderful delights of local contemporary art.

Ed Jones of South West Art Work said: "St Peter's has the potential to be a lively centre for contemporary art and live performance.

"The venue also provides an unusual and challenging space in which to create a focus of art activities for the local community of Weymouth and Portland. Our main aim is to make this a permanent fixture that many more within and beyond the immediate community can benefit from, so come along and enjoy what these talented local artists have to offer."

South West Art Work is taking place at St Peter's Church, The Grove, Portland, from Sunday, July 8 until Thursday, July 19, from 10am until 5pm.
