Christmas is getting close but there's still plenty of entertainment to be had locally - here's our Guide to how to make the best of your weekend.

*FILM The Ballad of Shirley Collins will be screened in Bridport tomorrow (23) night as part of the Bridport Winter Solstice Festival.

Shirley Collins herself will be appearing at The Electric Palace for a Q&A after the film. She will be accompanied by the film's producer, Paul Williams.

Widely regarded as the 20th century's most important singer of English traditional song, Shirley Collins stood at the epicentre of the folk music scene during the 1960s and '70's. However, in 1980 she lost her voice in mysterious circumstances, and was forced to retire from musical life.

Rob Curry and Tim Plester's documentary sets out to explore the story behind the icon, and chronicles Shirley's battle, at the grand old age of 80, to rediscover that voice she lost so many years previously. Call the box office for tickets and more information.

*ENCHANTING family pantomime Cinderella continues at Weymouth Pavilion until January 1.

This will be the first professional pantomime production of Sleeping Beauty at the Weymouth Pavilion as far back as we can research and is already set to be the most spectacular and magical show yet!
