Ten Shots, a photography collective based at Outpost in Fortuneswell Portland, is adding final touches to an upcoming exhibition which will be part of the B-Side Festival.

The group, which was established just 12 months ago with the support of B-Side, will display its work at White Stones Café Art Gallery in Easton, Portland from September 3 to October 21.

Ten Shots has already hosted two exhibitions at Outpost and a third at the Arts Centre in Bridport where artists showcased landscape and portraiture. Their most recent project People of Portland featured arresting portraits of well-known Portland characters.

The Ten Shots collective has been mentored by professional artists Brendan Buesnel and Pete Millson, both of whom have enabled members of the collective to push the boundaries and experiment with new ideas and techniques. Building on this support the Ten Shots photographers have each been developing their own styles and will be presenting a collaborative exhibition of new work at White Stones Café Gallery on Portland, Dorset. This body of photographic work aims to showcase the island by bringing a new perspective to some familiar sights of Portland and the surrounding waters. The images range from more traditional styles to those which are uniquely different, and promise to surprise, challenge and delight.

Dave Warren, member of Ten Shots, describes his work for this exhibition as 'looking at the usual from a different perspective by taking reality and tilting it just a little bit, focusing on symmetry and inversion with a touch of fantasy'.

Sarah Colwell has always loved sailing and water and is intrigued by 'the way the sea state, wind and quality of light either perfectly mirror or distort the reflected image'. In this exhibition Sarah shares some of her favourite reflections of Portland and the surrounding area.

Gina Bolt’s work investigates the parts of life on Portland that are often overlooked. Gina comments that “a deep dig into the life of locals may not always reveal what you expect, in natural scenes every creature transforms.” Through her photos Gina illustrates how fascinating even the most seemingly ordinary creatures can be.

All Ten Shots members’ photographs will be displayed at White Stones Café Gallery and will be available for purchase at the gallery.

Ten Shots currently has vacancies for new members who are interested in working collaboratively with the group to develop their photography skills and promote their work to a wider audience. See tenshotsart.wixsite.com
