A POPULAR folk trio will play a village hall gig next week.

The Churchfitters will perform in Osmington Village Hall, near Weymouth, on Friday September 7.

They last played the venue in Christmas 2017, when they wowed the packed house with their adventurous take on some folk classics combined with their own songs, and enchanted their audience with a rendition of Silent Night played on the glass harp - a selection of liquid-filled glasses rung expertly by Churchfitter Chris.

This year they perform at Osmington's Big Gig and BBQ on Friday, September 7 at 8pm, when the band – comprising brother and sister Chris and Rosie Short together with Frenchman Boris Lebret – will provide a mix of foot-tapping fiddle and beautiful melodies played on array of traditional and self-made instruments – including a ‘benzouki’ made from Mercedes hubcaps.

The audience will be well-fed as the BBQ sizzles with sausages and burgers, with a halloumi option for vegetarians. Churchfitter Chris has promised a supply of galettes, a French pancake made from buckwheat eaten cold, wrapped around a hot sausage.

The bar will be open and parking is free.

Profits from the evening will go towards funding ‘Pack Up Your Troubles’, an event to be held on November 11 to mark the centenary of the First World War’s armistice.
