HOW could one fatal gunshot in Sarajevo start The Great War and change everybody’s life today?

The Big Bang Gang from Sweden present a brand new show which asks that very question when it heads to Dorset this autumn through Artsreach, the county's touring arts charity.

In 1914 Gavrilio Princip assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary, initiating a chain of events that would eventually lead to outbreak of the First World War.

Now, as part of a series of events programmed to commemorate the centenary anniversary of World War One, this brand new show offers an insight in to the events leading up to that fatal gunshot, and explores how that moment changed the course of history for everybody, and still affects life today.

Kerry Bartlett, Artsreach co-director said: “In a season that sees the centenary anniversary of World War One commemorated, Artsreach are pleased to be able to mark this moment in our own way with a variety of new productions and performances. In particular, this brand new show from a talented group of Swedish musicians and storytellers, which heads to Dorset as part of a larger national tour.”

Through stories, songs and cabaret, meet characters who really only want to live, laugh and love and follow them on a surprising journey through power struggles and secret conspiracies. Maria, a professional storyteller and artist, follows the nervous young men of the action group, their pockets loaded with guns, bullets and poison. Staffan is a writer who brings to life the tensions and the historical background of the shot and its Big Bang aftermath. Eva, a singer and actress, uses stories and songs of the time to build an atmosphere that brings you near to these people and their fate. As tensions mount, be swept along by the magic of these Swedish performers.

See Sarajevo Big Bang at the Portman Hall in Shillingstone on Sunday, October 14 .
