AN UPLIFTING tale will be brought to the stage by young actors.

Weymouth Drama Club Curtain Raisers are set to perform Goodnight Mister Tom at Weymouth Pavilion on Thursday (25) and Friday (26).

Michelle Magorian’s stunning Goodnight Mister Tom is brought gloriously to life in this stage adaptation by David Wood – who has been described as the UK’s ‘national children’s dramatist’ (The Times).

Set during the dark and dangerous build-up to the Second World War, Goodnight Mister Tom follows sad young William Beech, who is evacuated to the idyllic English countryside and builds a remarkable and moving friendship with the elderly recluse Tom Oakley. All seems perfect until William is devastatingly summoned by his mother back to London.

Goodnight Mister Tom is a tale of two broken souls at very different ends of the age scale that celebrates the value of love and proves that friendship knows no barriers.

Director Gina Brown said: "The rehearsals for this show have been so much fun and the whole cast have worked so hard to bring this production to life. We are very excited to bring it to the stage."

Tickets are available from Weymouth Pavilion's website or from the box office. They cost £12 for adults and £6 for children.
