SEE an unlikely dance student's one night only performance.

Shane Shambhu is bringing Confessions of a Cockney Temple Dancer to Charmouth School Hall near Lyme Regis on Thursday, November 15 at 7.30pm.

Shane's appearance at Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year was much acclaimed and this special night comes to west Dorset with Artsreach, the county's touring arts charity.

Combining Indian dance and comedy, Shane leads his audiences on a revealing journey of his life growing up in London; from unlikely dance student to 'rude boy' to international performer.

Born and raised in the London Borough of East Ham among a large extended family from southern India, Shane’s life changed when he was eight years old and his mother sent him to a Master to learn Bharatanatyam, a temple dance from their native Kerala. After that, when his school friends from all over Asia and Africa were playing football at playtime, Shane was practising his dance movements in a corner of the school yard concealed behind a wall.

Combining his inimitable charm and wit with dynamic dance sequences, Shane reveals his past through a vivid display of characters, lived experiences and comical stories, reflecting on how race, language, identity and cultures have defined him and his career. After the show, audiences will be invited to enter the Cockney Curry House, meet Shane and sample food inspired by his family's Keralan recipes!

Artsreach is delighted to present one performance by Shane as part of the National Rural Touring Dance Initiative. *Confessions of a Cockney Temple Dancer, Charmouth School Hall near Lyme Regis, 7.30pm, Thursday November 15; tickets from 07967 759135 or online at www.artsreach.co.uk Suitable for those aged eight and above.
