THE complex emotional life of composer Claude Debussy will be revealed in a combined piece of music and narrative.

Lucy Parham: Rêverie, The Lives and Loves of Claude Debussy will be performed at Dorchester Corn Exchange on Sunday, November 18 at 7pm.

Henry Goodman will narrate the performance, fittingly coming to Dorchester in the centenary year of Debussy’s death.

Last year pianist Lucy brought Dorchester Nocturne, which was narrated by Dame Harriet Walter and Guy Paul.

Rêverie evokes Debussy’s complex emotional life through a personal and revealing journal, illuminated by a sequence of his most famous and atmospheric solo piano works performed live by Lucy.

The Independent wrote about Lucy’s performance of Rêverie with Henry Goodman at Wigmore Hall “The music in Parham’s programme was chosen to reflect the mood of the letters, and this it did with great success. Henry Goodman is a brilliant character actor, and here he gave us a gallery of characters… he cast a bleak spell as the loneliness of fame and the bitterness of illness kicked in. Meanwhile, Parham’s playing superbly covered the musical bases, from the lazy opulence of ‘Soirée dans Grenade’ to the glacial chill of ‘Des pas sur la neige’, from the tintinnabulation of ‘Pagodes’ to the chaste beauty of ‘La fille aux cheveux de lin’.”

Lucy first came to prominence as Piano Winner in BBC Young Musician 1984 and has gone on to perform in concert halls around the world. Olivier Award Winner Henry Goodman has starred in the West End and on Broadway, notably as Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls and Shylock in The Merchant of Venice.

Claude Debussy’s words will be brought to life by actor Henry Goodman whose extensive acting career has included a wide range of roles in theatre, television and radio. He has won numerous awards for his theatre work. He is perhaps best known for his work on television and film with memorable award-winning roles in 2004’s Shylock and 1998’s Chicago.
