ENJOY a special recital in Portesham next weekend.

The Mela Guitar Quartet will tour rural Dorset, calling in at Portesham Village Hall on Saturday, February 16 at 7.30pm.

Bringing the colours and textures of four classical guitars to life with a wonderfully inventive, eclectic mix of repertoire, Mela Quartet explore the art of a classical quartet to the highest level in three special recitals for Artsreach this spring.

Musicians Matthew Robinson, George Tarlton, Daniel Bovey and Jiva Housden formed the Mela Quartet after meeting whilst studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Royal Academy of Music. Individually Mela's members have a wealth of concert experience, from performances on BBC Radio 3 and 4, to concerto performances in venues such as the Wigmore Hall, Kings Place and the Purcell Rooms.

Mela's Daniel Bovey was born and raised in Dorset, studying at Gillingham Secondary School before moving on to and graduating from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in 2014, with the highest degree result across the year. Daniel continued his studies at the Royal Academy of Music, graduating with Distinction in 2016, and Artsreach is delighted to welcome him back to Dorset with the Mela Quartet for their debut tour with the rural arts charity.

Kerry Bartlett, Artsreach Co-Director said “Daniel is a similar age to myself, and I remember seeing him perform during my time in secondary school – he was clearly a talented musician at that point, and has gone on to achieve so much already. To welcome him back to Dorset with his quartet is a very exciting opportunity indeed.”

Mela guitar are now on tour following the release of their latest album, ‘Pluck, Strum, Hammer’. Expect exquisite musicianship, precision and intensity from this acclaimed quartet.
