AWARD-WINNING composer Andrew Dickson will be giving a talk at the Bridport LSi accompanied by live music.

If You’ve got a Heartbeat will take place on Wednesday, February 20 at 7.30pm and is hosted by the Bridport Literary & Scientific Institute in association with the Electric Palace.

This talk is a fringe event ahead of the Mike Leigh Film Festival at The Electric Palace, taking place from February 21 to 24.

Andrew composed music for six of the seven films to be featured in the festival and will be joining Mike Leigh at the end of each day for an audience Q&A.

He said: "Over 50 years in the performing arts, I have had the great good fortune to work as an actor, teacher, musician, musical director, writer, artistic director and composer.

From 'The Three B's' in Bridlington to the People's Palace in Borneo, from a circus tent in Tokyo, via Colfox School Hall, through Raymond's Revue Bar, the Royal Court Theatre and nine Castles with the National Trust. Seven Edinburgh Festivals, two years drowning in the RSC, The Children's Theatre of Minneapolis, seven Community Plays in Dorset, a refugee camp in Ghana to the WI Hall in Burton Bradstock . . . I have worked, had much fun and on the way collected a few ideas and instruments.

"Using some of these, I will attempt to show how my tunes, scores, noises and songs arrived, developed, recycled and finally stuck, to a plethora of theatre shows, community events, film and TV programmes, eventually providing scores for six of the Mike Leigh Films to be screened in the forthcoming festival at the Electric Palace. Having been lucky enough to do all this stuff I am delighted to come to the LSi to show off about it."
