ACTOR Sam West will be a special guest at Dorchester Choral Society’s next concert.
Sam, the film and TV actor/director son of Timothy West and Prunella Scales, will join the society to perform live at St Mary’s Church, Dorchester on Saturday March 30 at 7.30pm.
He will be the narrator in a programme of dramatic music.
Sam has played a wide variety of roles in film and on television, from Anthony Eden in Darkest
Hour to Dr Frankenstein in Van Helsing.
He is also a specialist narrator with more than 50 audiobooks to his credit and has performed with
some of the country’s finest orchestras, including six times at the Proms.
The programme will feature two very colourful works from the 1920s: William Walton’s Façade
and Arthur Honegger’s King David which require two narrators alongside a small orchestra
and, in the case of King David, professional singers and a large choir.
Sam said: “The opportunity to narrate the two works in one
performance has proved irresistible.”
The programme is being rounded off by two short popular pieces of choral music Gabriel Fauré’s
Cantique de Jean Racine and Morten Lauridsen’s O Magnum Mysterium (both in Classic FM’s
2018 Hall of Fame).
The society’s musical director Colin Howard said: “The two pieces were ground breaking in
their time and are very dramatic. We are incredibly fortunate to have secured an actor of Sam’s quality to work with us in what promises to be a really memorable performance.”
