FAR From the Madding Crowd meets an 80s teen movie in a new book.

Fiona Campbell, under her author name FJ Campbell, has written The Islanders about life in a fictional boarding school in Dorset in the 1980s.

Fiona, who lived in Germany and Switzerland for 14 years, now lives in Hertfordshire and hopes her novel will introduce Thomas Hardy to a younger audience.

This is her second book following the publication of No Number Nine, a coming-of-age novel for adults, set in Munich and Sydney. FJ Campbell attended boarding schools in Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset and loves holidaying in Cornwall.

The Islanders takes place at Weatherbury Hall - a boarding school in the countryside of south-west England that’s so remote and cut off, its pupils call it ‘The Island’.

Beautiful, rich, selfish Beth Atkinson is the undisputed queen of The Island, and she won’t give that up just to be someone’s girlfriend.

Her loyal friend Milo and the intense head boy Edward both try to change her mind, but it is only when she meets gorgeous, charming Zack that she finally twigs what all the fuss is about.

She’s in so deep with Zack, she can’t see until it’s too late that her careless choices affect everyone around her, wrecking the lives of her friends and propelling them towards tragedy.
