HAVE a go at pottery with a free adult taster day.

Potters Sarah Gee and Franny Owen have teamed up to form Clayworks to offer the special half hour sessions at Bridport’s Art and Vintage Quarter on St Michael’s Trading Estate on thursday, may 30.

They're open to everyone and no experience is necessary – these fun and friendly taster sessions are an opportunity for some hands-on experience of throwing on the pottery wheel.

For budding potters who’d like to really get to grips with throwing on the pottery wheel, Clayworks is planning regular daytime, evening and weekend classes for adults at Sarah and Franny’s beautiful, fully equipped studio.

Hand-building techniques, glazing and firing will also be covered and there are workshops for children and other pottery related events in the pipeline.

Sarah, who studied ceramics at Falmouth University, says ‘These will be the first classes and workshops in Bridport itself in throwing on the pottery wheel. It’s definitely something that takes practice, but I love teaching and I think anyone can learn the skills. It’s fun and incredibly satisfying to produce hand-made objects that can be used and enjoyed in everyday life.’

Franny tried to study ceramics over twenty years ago when her three daughters were all under five years old. "I wish I’d never stopped but the girls needed my attention and then life lead me in other directions until I had the opportunity to take voluntary redundancy in 2017. I’m so pleased to be working with clay again, and I don’t think it’s ever too late to start!"

Sarah and Franny are really looking forward to passing on their skills through Clayworks and their work can be seen at F.O.& Co. Makers, the retail space at the front of their studio, which is open every Saturday and on the last Sunday of the month to coincide with Bridport’s Vintage Market.
