GET ready to experience everyone's favourite patchwork elephant like never before.

This year, Elmer is celebrating his 30th birthday with a live stage adaptation of the classic children's book series by David McKee - and it's coming to Bridport.

Elmer The Patchwork Elephant Show tells the tale of an elephant that stands out with his patchwork of brilliant colours amongst a sea of grey. His fun-loving and cheerful personality keeps everyone in a playful mood, until one day he gets tired of being different and tries to fit in. Eventually, Elmer realises that his friends have always valued his unique characteristics, and the story shares the subtle message that it is always best to be yourself.

The beloved story will be brought to life by Selladoor Family, producers of James and The Giant Peach and Madagascar the Musical, and MEI Theatrical, the company behind The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Sarah and Duck's Big Top Birthday.

David Hutchinson, CEO of Selladoor Family, said: “We are committed to engaging young people in theatre and strongly believe these experiences help to develop a sense of imagination, playfulness and confidence. Elmer is a wonderful story with a powerful message which will delight children and families who love the hugely popular series of books."

The story has been adapted for the stage by Suzanne Maynard Miller and is directed by Scott le Crass.

Lisa Wilcock of Bridport Arts Centre added: “This is a West End quality show that your kids are going to love! Elmer is a much loved character and this show will be packed with puppetry, colour and fun.”

Elmer remains one of the most iconic and widely read children’s book series of all time, selling over 10 million copies worldwide since it was first published in 1989. The books have been translated into more than 50 languages.

The story of the patchwork elephant will take to the stage at Bridport Arts Centre on Tuesday, August 6, at 2pm. Tickets cost £12.50 for children or £39 for a family. To book, visit www.bridport-arts.com
