IT MIGHT pack an almighty punch when it comes to attracting musical acts, but Camp Bestival is best known for the way it caters to a family audience.

Every year there are 100 free things for children to enjoy, from storytelling and jousting knights to an animal farm.

Performers include Mr Tumble and this year, the comperes for the family entertainment afternoon on Saturday are CBBC legends Dick and Dom, alias Richard McCourt and Dominic Wood.

The two lads first found fame with the anarchic Tiswas-esque Saturday morning programme Dick and Dom In Da Bungalow, which was loved by parents as well as children and spawned the Bogies game, where contestants battled it out to shout ‘bogies’ the loudest in a public place.

Since then they have appeared in Diddly Dick and Dom, in which they play puppets of themselves, and The Legend of Dick and Dom, which has a ‘historical’ slant.

They appear in the current film version of the Horrid Henry books playing two crazy television presenters – not much of a stretch there, then – and they are also providing the voices for the latest incarnation of the popular children’s show Bananas in Pyjamas.

Dick, or Rich, the taller of the bungalow’s ringmasters, said: “Camp Bestival will be great because our stuff crosses all ages, so hopefully everyone will be happy.

“There’s the Gruffalo and Mr Tumble, who is something of a superhero for the younger kids, and then we will be there hopefully providing a broad range of fun for everybody else.”

Dick started his television career as a runner at the BBC before a producer, who knew he had dreams of being a presenter, gave him a shot at his dream job.

Dom started off as a friend and now they are arguably the most recognised television pair since Ant and Dec.

“Children’s television is so big these days, it even has its own channels, CBBC and CITV. The programmes are fantastic, entertaining and educational and I think what is put out is absolutely amazing,” said Dick.

“It’s great being able to work with Dom because we’re good mates. When you’re presenting on your own it can be quite boring but it’s great having someone like him there to perk things up.

“I’ll meet up with Dom and his wife out of work and we’ll hang out together,” added Dick.

“But it can be quite bizarre, going down to the supermarket and someone yells ‘bogies’ at you.”
