AWARD-WINNING photographer Ben Osborne will be showing his multi-media tribute to the Jurassic Coast at the next meeting of Weymouth Camera Club.

Jurassic Journey is Ben’s story of the Dorset and East Devon World Heritage Site, the Jurassic Coast, inspired by its geology, wildlife, culture, people and landscapes.

The show is an exciting fusion of photography, digital imagery, music, poetry and sculpture created by four artists working on the coast over a period of two years.

Ben worked with Devon-based poet Matt Harvey, Dorset artist Lal Hitchcock and county musician Sammy Hurden.

The journey starts with rocks.

They are important, fascinating, approachable and they underpin everything else which forms the character of the coast. However, we then travel from geological Deep Time through the millennia to the present day and explore not only the natural character and landscape of the coast but our relationship with it.

The presentation looks at how the earth’s natural processes have shaped the coast and continue to do so, how wildlife has invaded the coast from land and sea and how centuries of human activity have layered the landscape with history.

It also looks at how the coast now provides us with varied opportunities for work, recreation and relaxation.

The show is a celebration of the Jurassic Coast which Ben Osborne brings to life with commentary, images, music, soundscapes and humour to create an entertaining evening for anyone interested in what happens when four artists takes a close look at one of Britain’s best known natural World Heritage sites.

Ben said: “Working in the UK is brilliant because there is such a fantastic variety of places to see and the Jurassic Coast is one of the most special pieces of coastline and it was a privilege to be there.

“There are so many things there and one of the most extraordinary things is that you can see geology and how it happened and the processes that shaped it.”

The presentation is based around state-of-the-art high-definition projections accompanied by sound and music on a high quality PA system – it's an audio-visual treat for any audience.

Jurassic Journey is on March 13 at the Centenary Club, 21 Jubilee Close, Weymouth, at 7.30pm. All are welcome and tickets are £10 from Wessex Photo in Maiden Street, Weymouth or at Weymouth Camera Club Meetings.
