I NOTE in Tuesday’s edition of the Echo that there is to be a ‘Train times crackdown’.
A few weeks back my wife and I travelled from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh Waverley station on the East Coast Main Line, operated by a well-known company.
A journey of nearly 400 miles, it was scheduled to take four hours 21 minutes, with stops at four stations en-route.
Between the stops the train was travelling at 125 miles per hour and, when the track was adjacent to a motorway, it rocketed past speeding cars and rapidly left them behind.
The train arrived at Edinburgh Waverley and finally came to a halt exactly 37 seconds late.
You’d think a large company could operate a train on time, wouldn’t you?!
