A DRIVER collapsed behind the wheel of his car while travelling on Weymouth Way.
Police and ambulance were called to deal with a single vehicle collision near Chafey’s Roundabout at around 3pm.
A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “We received a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision.
“It is understood a male driver collapsed at the wheel on Weymouth Way, between Chafey’s Roundabout and Morrisons Roundabout. Recovery was arranged for the vehicle and the driver was taken to hospital.”
The road was closed in both directions between Granby Way and Westwey Road while the vehicle, a blue Skoda Fabia registered to a Weymouth man, was recovered.
The man was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to hospital.
A spokesman for South West Ambulance Service said: “We were called to the scene at 3.05pm.
“A male in his 50s with breathing difficulties was taken to Dorset County Hospital.”
Weymouth Way was reopened at around 4pm.
