MOTORISTS are being warned to avoid standing or flowing water when out and about over the next 24 hours.
Emergency services, local authorities, the Environment Agency and Highways Agency issued a joint statement saying the message not to travel through water of unknown depth was quite clear, however, people were still driving into water and putting themselves in danger.
Dorset Fire and Rescue Service have been called to more than 70 water or flooding-related incidents over the past five days and have had to rescue many motorists from flooded vehicles. Water fall is subsiding but ground water levels could still rise.
There is also a risk to properties near to the side of roads that have been flooded, with bow waves from vehicles entering peoples’ homes.
People are being urged to drive responsibly, not to enter flooded roads and to obey road signs at all times.
Drivers are also being urged to check Highways Agency and other agency websites for road closures before setting off, especially across main Dorset routes.
