A JURY heard how a defendant told police he and his friends ‘had a skinful’ on the night they allegedly assaulted a doorman.

Robin Brown, aged 20, Stephen James Palmer, aged 44, and his son Jacob Charlton, aged 20, are on trial at Dorchester Crown Court charged with one count of assault and one count of affray.

Palmer, of Greenhill, is also charged with two further counts of common assault.

The charges relate to two separate incidents in Weymouth town centre in the early hours of November 26, 2010.

It is alleged that Palmer assaulted a doorman and off-duty manager at Aura nightclub shortly before all three men allegedly assaulted a doorman from The Dorothy Inn.

The court was read a police interview with Brown, in which he had said: “We had all had a skinful.

“I am not denying it because I had had a skinful, but I am not saying that I did do it because I don’t remember what I did.

“But I am confident that I wouldn’t have done that.”

The court heard that Palmer had admitted in an interview with police to having a ‘real dislike’ for doormen because they had been ‘heavy handed’ with him in the past.

He told them that in hindsight, he probably should have gone home an hour before the alleged incidents took place, the court heard.

All three men deny the assault and affray charges.

The trial continues.
