POLICE warned motorists to take care after flooding caused travel chaos across Dorset.

Heavy rain led to high levels of surface water on roads across the county this morning.

Traffic delays were caused on the A35 near the football ground in Dorchester and around Monkey's Jump roundabout.

Heavy rain caused flooding in Watery Lane, Weymouth, between the Mill Street junction and the B3159 Church Street junction.

There was also flood water blocking part of the A35 in Charmouth at the A3052 junction.

Motorists also faced disruption on the West Stafford Bypass at Highgate Lane.

A warning of potential flooding has been issued for parts of West Dorset with more heavy rain expected.

The MET Office is warning residents to be prepared, and urging motorists not to drive through flood water.

A number of weather warnings are in place with torrential rain and snow expected to hit the UK.
