A PIZZA delivery man said 27 months in prison was not enough for the robber who dragged him from his car and threatened to kill his family.

John Joe Darch, 19, pounced on the pizza worker as he was delivering food in an unprovoked attack in Littlemoor, Weymouth, on January 1.

His victim, a 26-year-old father of two, has spoken of his ordeal after the teenager was sentenced to more than two years in prison at Dorchester Crown Court for robbery.

The Weymouth man, who did not want to be named, was left injured in the street by his attacker who stole his car and mobile phone.

The car was destroyed in a blaze the same night near Bincombe Valley Primary School which Darch denied starting.

He said: “It was awful, I’m only just back to work and I still struggle going back to the same place where it happened.

“I’ve been affected and it’s affected my whole family.

“The worst thing is that he’s only got 27 months in prison, which means he could be out in just over a year.

“We will be affected for much longer than that.”

He added: “The whole time since the attack my partner and I have had to scrape and scrimp.

“We’ve only just bought another car and it has put us under massive pressure financially.

“There’s no support out there for victims, I’ve had no help since the incident.

“Our pushchairs were in the car when it was set on fire and we still haven’t been able to buy new ones.

“What we have lost we worked hard for it, we’ve always worked hard to get where we are and we struggle as a family but this has really messed us up.”

He said: “I was out of work for about three months, which meant I wasn’t earning.

“I have only really recently gone back and it was a real struggle to get my full hours back.

“I’ve really, really struggled and I do feel he’s got away with it.

“Two years doesn’t seem very long for the hurt he’s put me through.

“I had badly bruised ribs, a chipped tooth and a very bloody nose after the attack.”

He added: “The pain was so bad that I couldn’t walk anywhere.

“I was in an awful lot of pain for a month or two afterwards, it was difficult for me to interact with my children.

“They’re one and two years old – I couldn’t pick them up or play with them.

“I still can’t get over it myself, I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.”

ONE-LEGGED robber Darch was given 27 months in prison at Dorchester Crown Court.

Amateur boxer Darch was identified because of his prosthetic leg, which was seen by the victim as he was kicked in the unprovoked attack.

The teenager, who was sent to prison last year for affray, took the pizza delivery man’s car, leaving him injured in the street.

Darch, of Beverley Road, Littlemoor pleaded guilty to robbery, admitting taking his victim’s Vauxhall Zafira car, his iPhone and £100 in cash.

The court was told that Darch opened the victim’s car door, punched him twice in the face and dragged him from the vehicle.

He was reported to have told his victim: “I’ve got a lot of your ID in the car, I’ve got your keys and I know where you live. If you tell the police, I will kill your family.”

Darch repeatedly shouted at the victim not to look at him and kicked him several times as he lay in the road, the court heard.

Judge Jarvis told Darch: “It was late at night, you saw the unfortunate victim and realised he would be an easy target.

“On his own, carrying money – it was plain that he was delivering pizza at that time of night.

“You are a boxer. When you punch somebody, I daresay it’s more effective than when an ordinary person punches out.

“Then, when the unfortunate victim was on the ground, you kicked him. You made threats, which the victim took seriously, threats to his family.

“He had to move out of his home for a few days. The consequences of all of this upon him and his family have been severe. He was just trying to earn a bit extra for his family and this is what happened to him. I hope that you are ashamed of yourself.”
