VOLUNTEER police officers in Dorset clocked up almost 60,000 hours of service last year.

The figure was revealed as the force’s special constables were thanked for their efforts and presented with a certificate of recognition by chief officers and the Police and Crime Commissioner for Dorset. Special Constabulary and Volunteers Co-ordinator for Dorset Police Inspector Mike Darkin said: “Special constables are asked to work a minimum of four hours a week, which is 200 hours in total over the course of a year.

“Dorset Police are extremely grateful for every hour given by each and every member of our special constabulary.

“We are, however, fortunate to have members of the team that consistently go above and beyond, with 44 officers each working in excess of 400 hours last year. Our special constables are a professional and dedicated team that work together with other staff.”
