There were women in long gowns, photographers, reporters and even a TV film crew.

Around 300 people attended the Langtry Manor Venus Dorset Awards which were held for the first time at the Bournemouth Pavilion ballroom.

There was also a film crew from Betty TV who filmed part of the ceremony for a pilot show for Channel 4.

Winner of the Echo-backed Business Mother of the Year award was Gemma Freeman who runs her own jewellery making and designer business.

After a few years of taking part in jewellery parties, craft shows and exhibitions, Gem found her niche supplying hotel display cabinets. She now works from home so she can take care of her young son Beau.

The two finalists were Joanne Tomlin of Poole-based company Meridian Lifts and Debra Clark of the Jelf Group.
