A WEYMOUTH man is holding an online auction for the local learning disability charities he walked 750 miles for.

Lee Roberts, of Southill, will put a signed Weymouth football shirt and ball on eBay from Monday at 9am.

All the money raised will go to Alexandra Road Residential Centre of Lodmoor Hill, and the Ridgeway Centre of Westham, Weymouth.

Mr Roberts said: "It is in memory of my best friend's sister Naomi Watling who died in September 2004.

"She went to both Alexandra Road which provides full-time residency for adults with learning disabilities and the Ridgeway Centre which provides social and educational training for adults with learning disabilities.

"Last summer we walked 750 miles and visited 20 Premiership football stadiums to raise just under £8,000."

As well as donating money to the two Dorset charities, proceeds went to Care - a national charity for people with learning disabilities.

The finance manager for West Dorset NHS Trust in Dorchester and his friend Nathan Watling walked from the Wessex Stadium to St James' Park in Newcastle visiting every Premiership ground along the way.

Mr Roberts said: "The clubs were very good and donated things for us to sell to raise money along the way.

"The chief executive of Weymouth FC, Gary Calder, found out and phoned me personally on behalf of Weymouth Football Club to offer a signed shirt - that's why I have decided to hold an auction as well."

He added: "The ball was donated by Weymouth supporter Mark Golsby, who heard about our fundraiser through Weymouth Football Club fans' forum and got in touch.

"I've no idea how much money the shirt and ball will raise but hopefully as much as possible for the two local learning disability charities."
