FORMER Westham Cycles owner Eddie Clark died of a heart attack as he neared the end of a ride in Weymouth.

Mr Clark, 59, suffered the 'massive' attack near Chalbury Corner, on Preston Road, on his way home following a ride to Affpuddle, near Dorchester.

His widow Pat today paid tribute to her husband and said that he died doing something he loved - riding his bicycle.

Mrs Clark, who lived with her husband in Wyke Regis, Weymouth, said: "The only consolation is that he did not suffer and that he died doing something he loved."

No-one else was involved in the tragedy.

Mrs Clark, who was coming to terms with the loss with their son and daughter Emma and Deryck, added: "He was our world. He was very special and we loved him so much. My world has been changed forever."

Mr Clark died just after 2pm on November 27. As a cycle shop boss his regular customers included champion triathlete Eddie Ette.

In January, 2002, he handed over the business to Mike Andrews.

Mr Clark was in remission from cancer at the time of his death. He continued riding after stepping down from the business.

His wife joined him on cycle rides but he often went on longer rides alone.

Mr Clark had set off on his own on the day of his death and rode up to Warmwell before stopping to visit his friend and former Great Western Camping owner Chris Parker at Affpuddle.

He was riding home on Preston Road when he suffered the heart attack.

Mrs Clark said: "People were very kind and a great help, including a motorcyclist who tried to give first aid.

"I want thank them, the air ambulance, police and coroner's officer."

Mr Clark's funeral will be at Weymouth Crematorium on Thursday, December 7, at 1.45pm. Donations can be made in aid of the Children with Leukaemia charity, care of Woods Funeral Service on 01305 250425.
