A DORCHESTER train station has been recognised for its green qualities.
Dorchester South station was a winner in South West Trains - Network Rail Alliance’s first Green Station Awards.
The initiative aimed to recognise the best environmental schemes across the company and saw the county town station take the title in the small green station category.
The award recognised the work of staff in monitoring water and electricity consumption after their diligence saved a major water leak as it was spotted immediately and corrective measures were put in place.
Sharon Vye-Parminter, the Alliance's safety and assurance director, said: “We are continuing to deliver innovative initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of our operations.
“This award is recognition of the hard work of our staff who make this possible.
“We will now continue to focus on delivering an even greener railway for our passengers.”
