FESTIVAL fun is underway at a major new event near Dorchester.

The first event Forever Sun Festival opened its doors yesterday at Came Park between the county town and Broadmayne.

True to its name the sun came out as the music got underway in the afternoon revellers started flocking to the crowds.

Mayor names performing over the two-day event include Dodgy, Hugh Cornwell and The Blockheads as well as local acts such as Andy Grant, Nick Capaldi and The Dolmen.

Organiser Jamie Pinnow said it was amazing to see the site come alive after a year of tireless preparation for the event.

He said: “I have stood in this field so many times and imagined what it is going to be like.

“Now it’s all here and people are coming in, it’s incredible.”

Mr Pinnow said he was impressed with how many people had started turning up yesterday afternoon and was expecting a bigger flow of people to start arriving in the evening.

Day passes are available for today and Mr Pinnow urged people to come and enjoy some great music in the friendly festival atmosphere.

Among the festival goers staying for the whole event was Chris Kendrick, who was full of praise for Mr Pinnow and his team.

He said: “It’s fantastic, it’s a great new addition and it’s all really positive. It’s very well organised as well.”

Young volunteers from Dorchester Youth Extra (DYE) were helping out stewarding at the event.

Chloe Lovell, 16, from Dorchester, said it was a good way for the youngsters to get experience.

She said: “It’s been brilliant but very tiring, I got here on Thursday evening and I will be volunteering through till tomorrow helping to clear it all up.

“It’s all really well organised for a first time event.

“This is the fourth different volunteering job I have done.”

The traffic appeared to be coping well with the influx of festival goers yesterday afternoon but motorists are warned to expect delays on the A352 between Dorchester and the Poxwell roundabout.
