IT’S back and it is bigger and better than before.

Following the success of the inaugural Wessex Food Festival the organisers are hosting the event again but have changed the venue to Weymouth College.

On the weekend of Saturday, September 14 and Sunday 15 hundreds of food fans are expected to flock to the college to sample new flavours.

Organiser Lindsay Howell said: “There will be more than 60 stands selling everything from olives to oils, wine to wasabi, cakes to coffees, ales to asparagus, sushi to shellfish.

“After the amazing success of our inaugural event, we are delighted to be bringing back the best of West Country food.

“The event brings people together for a weekend of eating, drinking and cookery demonstrations, workshops and much much more, where you can take home some wonderful gourmet goodies.”

The event is being sponsored by Meyers Estate Agents, the Stables restaurants and Grant and Hind Solicitors.

In college square there will be a food court where you will get the chance to enjoy coffee, lunches, including pizzas, Thai food, Vietnamese sandwiches, mackerel baps, a variety and meat and vegetarian options, crepes, waffles and an afternoon Dorset cream tea. There will be live music in the square throughout the weekend as well as a bouncy castle and face painting for the children to enjoy.

Lindsay said that this year organisers are adding a chance to take part in ‘hands-on’ workshops in the college kitchens where college chefs will be helping you prepare bread, pasta and a delicious dessert which you can either eat there or take home. There is an additional cost of £5 for the workshop to cover tuition and the cost of ingredients. There can only be eight people for each workshop so phone 07529 760215 to secure your place.

The festival will be open on both days from 10am to 5pm and the entrance fee is the same as last year – only £2.50 for adults, £2 for senior citizens and children under 16 go free. A percentage of the entrance fee will also be given to the chosen charity – the Kingfisher ward at Dorset County Hospital.
