TWO people critically injured in separate road crashes over the Bank Holiday weekend are still fighting for life.

A Dorset Police spokesperson said yesterday there was no change in the condition of either the Poole mum injured in a caravan crash on the A35 or the female pedestrian hit by a cyclist in Langton Matravers.

Both are being treated at Southampton General Hospital.

The 48-year-old Poole woman was a passenger in a Land Rover Discovery along with her husband and young son which overturned on the road between Bridport and Dorchester at 1.05pm on Saturday.

The woman suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital by air ambulance.

Her 52-year-old husband, who was driving, suffered minor injuries and was taken, along with their son, 11, to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester.

The youngster escaped injury in the single-vehicle crash, which saw the vehicle roll several times after losing control.

The A35 was closed in both directions between Shipton Gorge and Monkey’s Jump for several hours.

Congestion built up in Maiden Newton, Dorchester, and on the coast road as motorists were diverted around the scene.

Hours earlier, a 60-year-old female pedestrian was also airlifted after suffering serious head injuries in a collision with a male cyclist in Langton Matravers.

The 61-year-old Bournemouth cyclist was taken to Poole General Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The crash took place next to a bus stop opposite the entrance to Leeson House.

Both collisions come just days after Dorset’s PCC Martyn Underhill announced he is to hold a meeting to review road safety strategy.

He called the meeting due to concerns about the potential rise in serious and fatal incidents on the county’s roads.
